INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO THE ORGANIZATION OF FUTURE TRANSLATORS’ INDEPENDENT LEARNING IN THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE

Abstract
Introduction. The system of higher education at USA universities is characterized by increasing the proportion of independent work of students. It contributes to the development of their readiness for professional self-improvement. Improving of the system of independent learning activities of students acquires special significance. The consideration of the results of comparative pedagogical research contributes to the successful accomplishment of this task. It makes it possible reveal peculiarities, and also justify the possibility of using foreign experience in Ukraine. The purpose of the article is to investigate innovative approaches to the organization of independent educational activities of future translators at the USA universities. Results. One of the important components of the independent training activity of translators is the development of skills of working with the Internet. Students search and study materials (catalogs of products, specifications, instructions, popular science articles) in a foreign language, develop their own websites, order the necessary educational literature. E-mail also allows students to communicate with teachers, send them work for verification, get results with all necessary corrections and comments. Future translators, who use distance-learning, are able to download or view online video courses and lecture classes, carry out practical exercises at any convenient time, which greatly increases the effectiveness of learning. Specificity of translation preparation requires carrying out so-called individual research and translation projects, which are often used as forms of final control. Originality. Features of independent educational activity for American future translators are thoroughly analyzed; innovative approaches to the organization of independent educational activities of future translators at the USA universities are investigated. Conclusion. Independent learning activity in American experience is considered as a form, method, technology and means of teaching. Organization of independent educational activity for future translators has the following features: the absence of strict time limits in learning, allowing students to advance in the study of educational material at a rate, that corresponds to their abilities; compiling of self-study individual programs with the help of computer-facilitation technologies by students; increasing the role of independent written works as a system of tasks, that correspond to the logic of mastering the subject and stimulate the development of professional skills of students; use of the facilitation principle for the purpose of objective and prompt verification of the results of cognitive activity of students, correction of their independent activity. Further areas of research are the implementation of a comparative pedagogical analysis of the organization of independent teaching activities of translators in the US and Ukraine.
