Abstract
Hyperhomocysteinemia has been the focus of intense research in the past decade as a causal factor in the pathogenesis of accelerated atherosclerosis, stroke and Alzheimer disease. Therapy for this condition has been the topic of much debate following the results of recent large trials on vitamin supplementation in stroke and Alzheimers disease. We report here the case of a young patient with ischemic stroke which was attributed to abnormally elevated homocysteine levels and follow it up with a succinct review of hyperhomocysteinemia.
