Abstract

Chilli is one of the important s pices cum vegetable crop of India . More than 400 diffe rent varieties of chilli a re found all over the world. It is als o called as hot pepper, cayenne pepper, s weet pepper, bell pepper etc., The present s tudy was carried out in middle Gu jarat region of Gu jarat s tate during 2012-13. The input-output coeffic ients were generated with pers onal s urveys from 60 drip and 60 conventional chilli fa rmers s elected fro m four talu kas of Anand and Vadodara dis tricts in midd le Gu jarat region, thus the total 160 fa me rs were s elected for the s tud. The s tudy revealed that cob-douglass production function was found to be better fit in cas e of ch illi production, as it was judge by the e xp lanatory 2 power of the function (R ). Cos t of p lanting materia ls and chemica l fert ilizers were pos itive and highly s ignificant at 1 per cent and 10 per cent level of s ignificance res pectively in drip irrigated chilli farmers . M VP -MFC ratio was more than one for inputs like labour cos t, planting materials , che mica l fertilizers and irrigations but negative one for inputs like plant protection in drip chilli cult ivation. While in the conventional chilli cultivation the ratio was found to be more than one f or inputs like labour cos t, chemical fe rtilize rs , irrigations and plant protect ion but less than one for inputs like planting materia ls .
