STYLISTIC DEVICES CREATING CONTRAST IN LITERARY WORKS

In the paper we will try to analyze the stylistic devices that disclose the notion of contrast in the novel "Sula" by Tony Morrison. Toni Morrison's writing style is easily distinguishable due to her unique use of lan- guage. Some of her most commonly used techniques are the use of descriptive analogies, important historical references, and varied sentence structures with vivid literary images. In her contradictory world good lives alongside with evil, beauty is accompanied by ugliness, Heaven is found where Hell ends and Hell starts where Heaven is too "heaven". She works wonders with her contrastive thinking, and this contrastive tone of “Sula” can be taken as a literary technique expressing writer's natural talent
