Abstract

Introduction. Nowadays,a matter concerned with formation of geometry skills of vocational school pupils through application of information and communications technology is of particular importance. Purpose. An article purpose is to describe certain opportunities of ICT application for formation of geometry skills of vocational school pupils. Results. The author indicates that vocational school pupils should possess the following geometry skills: 1) skills to apply geometry concepts; 2) skills to measure and calculate geometric magnitudes; 3) skills to construct geometric shapes; 4) skills to substantiate geometric assertions; 5) modellingskills. ICT application considerably influences formation of geometric skills of pupils. It is worth mentioning that application of ICT during geometry lessons is highly effective in two directions:a) for motivation of educational activity; b) for illustrative purposes. To formskills to apply geometry concepts, it is expedient to use presentations and opportunities of web-services for visualization of concepts. For instance, visualization of concepts enables to form a socalled «tag cloud». Formation of skills related with measurement and calculation of geometric magnitudesenables to use interactive multimedia didactic games. The author describes services, which allow to create such games or to use available games. The role of ICT is the most important in formation of skills to construct geometric shapes. An opportunity related to demonstration of stepwise construction of three-dimensional images enables to develop spatial thinking and imagination of pupils. The author suggests examples of software, which allow creating images of three-dimensional shapes. To form skills to substantiate geometric assertions, a pupil should understand the sense of this assertion and visualize it. Application of pedagogical software, presentations, and video may help to achieve this goal. The article proposes examples of websites, which contain sketches created owing to modern computer 3D-graphics. Originality. The article determines groups of geometry skills, which should be acquired by vocational school pupils. The author proposes recommendations regarding enhancement of effectiveness of formation of each geometry skill group through ICT means, illustrating them by means of an example. Conclusion. Application of ICT during geometry lessons extends opportunities for visual tracking educational materials, motivation of educational activity, effective allocation of time, activation of current knowledge of pupils. In turn, all these factors positively influence formation of geometry skills of vocational school pupils.
