Investigation into Efficient Stand-alone Photovoltaic Power Supply System Based on Iraq Climate

Abstract
Solar energy is safe as well as clean, it is one type of renewable energy, this energy does not cause pollutions and it is not harmful to the environment. Renewable energy is gaining importance now with the increases in global warming and pollution. For these reasons, the technological advance seeks to reduce the cost of solar energy systems and increase the efficiency to expand its reach. In the present paper, sizing of stand-alone solar energy system is performed by using Microsoft Excel based on the proposed procedure. As an alternative to install and operate the designed system, a long term operation is simulated by using Matlab/Simulink. The solar energy systems for a hypothetical load according to Iraqi climate are designed and then undergone too many tests, especially in the worst case of operation; the investigation shows that the designed system is capable to exhibit a reliable operation for any weather conditions.
