Abstract

The corrosion resistance of the oxide layer of aluminum alloy 6063-T5 obtained from the anodizing evaluated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) using different corrosion media, i.e. pure aqueous solution, 1 M sodium chloride and 1 M chloride acid in order to determine the extent to which the ability of a layer of anodic formed to resist corrosion rate that happened. The anodizing process was carried out using a 10% electrolyte mixture of phosphoric acid and 2% oxalic acid with anodizing time for 1 hour using titanium alloy as cathode and solution temperature approximately 0oC. EIS testing is done using Autolab PGSTAT 302N with Frequency Responses Analyzer (FRA) software. The EIS results indicate a significant increase in corrosion resistance in anodized aluminum. Increased corrosion resistance occurs because the aggressive ions present in the electrolyte solution are not able to penetrate the pore layer formed as a result of the anodizing process. Because the pore layer formed has a more uniform size when compared with substrates that do not undergo anodizing process.
