Abstract
Rainwater harvesting especially in urban areas becomes huge requirement for effective water management and as well as for reducing water stagnation due to lack of provisions regarding regulation of rainwater runoff. Rooftop rainwater harvesting is the best available method for rainwater harvesting in urban areas as of now. In the existing system, there are certain disadvantages such as unpredictable rainfall, high initial cost, lack of regular maintenance and chemical seeping of certain roof types. To eliminate such disadvantages of existing rooftop rainwater harvesting system, in this paper, we have presented a novel solution. We have designed a rainwater harvesting system based on pneumatic structure (PRH – Pneumatic Rainwater Harvester) which can be executed either as individually or as adaptation for existing rooftops. We have discussed the advantages and limitations of the proposed design regarding urban rainwater harvesting scenario.
