Abstract

The issue of development of the Khortytsia National Reserve as a historical and cultural one is considered, one of the fundamental tasks of which was stated by the decree on its declaration (1965) was the making a garden-decorative park in its territory. Developing parks on the island of Khortytsia was carried out from the declaration of the reserve (1965) till 1989. The entire island was planned to be a park complex. The general plans of the Khortytsia Island of 1965 and 1985 are being explored in which the planned park remains, even though in 1973 the opponents of the declaration of the reserve made an attempt to remove the item about park in Khortytsia Island from the aforementioned decree. For the first time an attempt is made to analyze the lack of a park direction in the general plan for the development of the Khortytsia National Reserve, developed in 2003 in the independent Ukraine as one of the likely manifestations of losing the historical memory of the development of the reserve. There are suggestions on the search for possible solutions to the issues. A scientific search for the territories of the Khortytsia Island, in which there are artificially-created wood-shrub plantations in the middle of the last century, is mentioned. Those were developed by outsourced land users separately from the general plans for the development of the reserve. Among such territories are Khortytskii labyrinth (its area is about 40 hectares), the central part of Khortytsia Island (its area is about 900 hectares), etc. The possibility of their “re-engineering” in the park areas, in the territory of which there are historical places is considered. The task about combination of park areas with historical sightseeing site is discussed. Implementation of which will result in a much greater motivation for perception, respect and cognition, etc. The use of such a combination on the territory of the Khortytsia National Reserve is also considered. The experience of organizing the former forestry strips into the picturesque alleys called Khortytskii labyrinth, and further positioning it as a sightseeing site is explained. Such experience may be applied in others territories of Khortytsia Island.
