A RARE CASE OF ECLAMPSIA WITH PURTSCHERS LIKE RETINOPATHY

ABSTRACT Preeclampsia and eclampsia can cause visual disturbances .We report a rare case of Purtschers like retinopathy developed in a case of eclampsia. A 20 years old primigravida was admitted in our department with AP eclampsia at 36 3 days of gestation . On ophthalmologic examination, she was diagnosed as a case of Purtschers like retinopathy . Purtschers like retinopathy is often observed after trauma. It is very rare in pre eclampsia and eclampsia .Visual disturbances are transient in preeclampsia and eclampsia . But Purtschers like retinopathy results in marked visual loss with no significant visual recovery . It is necessary to do an ophthalmologic evaluation in a patient with preeclampsia and eclampsia with or without visual disturbances which helps to diagnose and treat the condition in early stage itself.
