Abstract

The urgency of the topic is related to the studies of the history of national science and the celebration of the centennial of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The creation of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in 1918 completed the process of organizational searches of the Ukrainian science, whose activity was most obvious during the XIX and early XX centuries. The formation of university scientific schools showed the activation of the national scientific movement. Within the framework of the detailed branch studies of university science, the cognitive policy of the Ukrainian society of the renaissance period was formed. The content of the main concepts of cognitive vision of the evolution of Ukrainian society is associated with the names of the leaders of science, church, culture. The competence approach, as a methodological basis for the researched subject, allowed determining the meaningful features of the notion of “person” in relation to the personification of participants in the scientific movement on the Ukrainian lands of the period of the empire. Since the basic component of cognitive processes in a society is the informativity of the social environment, along with the material and energy resources, the emphasis is on determining the role of the information component (through the concepts of “bibliography” and “library”) in the research work of representatives of scientific schools, mainly humanitarian. The achievements of the pre-revolutionary humanities of the academic schools of Kyiv, Kharkiv, Nizhyn, Odesa and Uman became meaningful benchmarks for making strategic decisions regarding the organizational foundations of the Academy in 1918. An integral component of the development strategy of the UAS was the decision to create a variety of units, whose bibliographic products would address the needs of information support of science in its multidisciplinary system knowledge.
