The study deals with the problem of the philosophy of knowledge and cognition, which is based on the problem of understanding the meaning of philosophy and the philosophical sciences for man. The article deals with the problems of correlation of philosophical and scientific knowledge, defines the explanation of philosophy, its essence, speaks about its practical significance for man, carries out a critical assessment of the identification of philosophy and science, assertion that philosophy is not science, but knowledge, which is nowadays confirmed in scientific researches of modern philosophers. Investigating the problem of the philosophy of knowledge and cognition, we came to the conclusion about the need for philosophical knowledge, which is the origin of the differentiation of philosophy in the field.
