Abstract
The article discusses the features of epidemiology and mortality from measles and smallpox by the example of pre-revolutionary Armavir. These diseases were leading in the structure of infant mortality from in- fectious diseases. The author analyzed the causes of high mortality and concluded that routine vaccination of the child population was an effective method of combating these infections
