Spiritual and moral education of youth in heritage Andrey SHeptytsky

Abstract

The article analyzes the foundations of spiritual and moral education proposed by the famous Ukrainian religious and national figure, teacher, guardian and philanthropist of education, Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky. His numerous letters and pastoral letters of educational content are systematized, which today have not lost their relevance. The role of Metropolitan Andrey in the Christian and patriotic education of Ukrainian youth is determined. Indicated that he called education art. The main elements of the educational system of Andrei Sheptytsky are analyzed. The main approaches of the metropolitan in the formation of the spiritual worldview of youth, the education of humility and courage are considered. The special Decree on education issued by Metropolitan Sheptytsky is analyzed. It is emphasized that in the upbringing of youth, a great role belongs to the will of man and his work on himself. The teachings of Andrey Sheptytsky on the importance of virtues in the spiritual and moral education of youth are systematized. Attention is drawn to moral virtues: wisdom, courage, restraint and justice, as well as theological virtues: faith, hope, love. It was emphasized that high ideals should be protected in young people, and education should develop heroes. The Message to the teachers of Metropolitan Andrey was noted, which encourages young people to learn to love their land, to show independence and individuality by means of education. Attention is drawn to the close connection of upbringing in the family, the Church and the state, where their unity will give a high result. The most important principles of spiritual and moral education used by Metropolitan Andrei are analyzed. It is noted that the metropolitan was the patron of Ukrainian schools, teachers and youth, whom he helped not only with advice but also financially. It is indicated that Andrei Sheptytsky, as a teacher, not only taught young people in words, but brought up an example of his own life, founding the Ukrainian National Museum, defended the need to create a Ukrainian university in Lviv, supported private schools, societies, Scientific Society named after Taras Shevchenko, reading rooms, gymnasiums, various organizations.
