Abstract

The article is presented the results of a decision-making study in individuals with different levels of tolerance for uncertainty. Achievement of the goal was ensured by solving the following research problems: the study of the relationship of indicators of tolerance to uncertainty and decision-making personality; identification of individuals with a dominance of tolerance for uncertainty and decision making; study of the stable relationships of decision-making characteristics in individuals who differ in the level of tolerance to uncertainty. The relevance of the study is due, on the one hand, to an increase in the need for theoretical and methodological generalization of research of decision-making by a person, and on the other hand, to the development of applied aspects of the study of tolerance to uncertainty. The assumption that the level of formed tolerance to uncertainty is a factor that determines personality decision-making indicators was tested. The analysis of trends in the psychological literature about the definition and meaning of the terms «tolerance to uncertainty», «choice», «decision-making personality» was done. A representative sample of 105 people was generated, include groups with a high (10 people) and low tolerance (12 people), men and women aged 20-46 years. The diagnostic results of the studied characteristics were obtained on widely used psychodiagnostic techniques, such as Subjective self-assessment of determination, Scale of tolerance to uncertainty, Melbourne decision-making questionnaire, Scale of intolerance-tolerance to uncertainty, Personal questionnaire of decision making, etc. The results of the correlation analysis of the relationship of decision-making indicators with uncertainty tolerance are presented. It was revealed the positive significant relationships between tolerance to uncertainty and most indicators of decision-making, as well as between intolerance, rationality, a tendency to risk and indicators of determination of the individual. The revealed relationships are shown that tolerance to uncertainty is one of the factors in making decisions by a person. The persons with different terms of tolerance to uncertainty are characteristic by certain decision-making indicators. The analysis of the stable interconnections of the components of determination (the systemic personality trait, which is opposed to determination – the volitional trait), and the individual psychological characteristics of their variations in individuals who are distinguished by their tolerance to uncertainty are particular noted.
