Abstract
Aim. Determination of the prevalence of anxiety and depression among students and medical residents, and of the need for psychotherapeutic care and its availability to the given contingent. Materials and Methods. The object of the study was students and medical residents of four medical universities. Anxiety and depression were assessed on HADS scale. The authors' questionnaire was used to assess the accessibility and awareness of psychotherapeutic care. Results. In the course of the study, symptoms of anxiety and depression were identified in 67.9% (n=443) of respondents, of them 58.4% (n=52) were men and 69.6% (n=392) women. Anxiety and depression were recorded in 75.2% (n=83) of the 1st year students and in 54.8% (n=17) of residents. The identified dynamics showed a decrease in the level of anxiety and depression towards senior courses. According to the survey, 42.2% (n=204) of students would like to resort to psychotherapeutic assistance. The majority of the respondents (89.1%, n=581) think that more attention should be given to issues concerning mental health. 51.7% (n=337) of respondents considered themselves happy. Conclusions. Analysis of the data showed that the majority of surveyed students had symptoms of anxiety and depression, as well as their combination. The prevalence of these conditions in the studied population was higher than the average in the Russian Federation. The level of anxiety and depression decreased towards senior courses, which may hypothetically indicate the termination of adaptation to the educational process in senior courses of universities. One third of the respon-dents were interested in receiving psychotherapeutic assistance, which indicates the need for this type of assistance. It was found that students were poorly informed of the possibilities of receiving psychological assistance at their universities.
