TO THE FORMATION OF BILINGUISM IN RUSSIA BEFORE THE SOVIET PERIOD

Abstract
The article is devoted to the issue of the origin and development of Russian-foreign bilingualism. Based on the analysis of the literature, the author draws conclusions about the origin and functioning of various types of bilingualism in the territory of Old Russia, the Russian Empire until the beginning of the XX century. Formulation of conclusions about the existence at various times of such types of bilingualism as: Old Russian-Turkic, Russian-Lithuanian, Russian-Chinese, Russian-Finnish bilingualism, and then Russian-German, Russian-French, Russian-English, etc., was contributed primarily by the famous work authoritative Russian scientists V.I. Belikova and L.P. Rat [1]. Here, in the work the method of analogy was used as one of the scientific methods of cognition, the method of linguistic description, general scientific methods of induction and deduction.
