Abstract
Wind energy is one of the most abundant renewable sources on the planet, used since ancient times in agricultural and mechanical tasks, which today presentsthe highest growth in the alternative energy market, for which the objective of this article is take a journey from ancient times to the present that allows us to show the transformations and evolution in the technologies and devices that take advantage of this potential. This review came to trace a line of development of wind devices that showed the first technical use in ancient Syria with the emergence of the vertical axis turbine, which moves towards Europe where the concept matures and the horizontal axis turbine arises. that thanks to the colonization of America converges in the development of water pumping systems such as the Eclipse, which was taken as a model for the development of the first electric wind turbines that later evolved to three-propeller systems that mark the paradigm of development today.
