Abstract

The article analyse the essence, content and structure of the authority of the school principal and his influence on the activities of the teaching staff. Authority is seen as a generally recognized influence, respect enjoyed by a person, group of persons, organization, etc. due to their inherent characteristics and merits (intelligence, professionalism, knowledge, experience, moral virtues, etc.), financial, social status, historical or other conditions embodied in the ability of the person to direct the thoughts and moods of others without resorting to coercion. Moral authority is a person's worldview and inherent moral qualities. The basis of moral authority is the property of the person, which clearly expresses his politeness, restraint, sensitivity to the needs of subordinates and friendliness. Functional authority is formed based on a person's professional competence, his various business qualities, attitude to his own professional activity. Functional and moral authority form a single individual human authority together. Formal authority (status authority) is a social position in which a person is performing work in a certain post. The most important types of formal authority are considered to be the official authority of the head, whose characteristic qualities are powerful authority. Integration in all three forms of authority leads to the creation of a true collective authority of the individual. Authority is also the psychological state of a person who holds the post. Authority consists of an awareness of one's capabilities and competence, an understanding of what others expect of him, and a recognition of one's rights and privileges. Therefore, the growth of authority is regarded by the leader as a personal victory, and his loss – as a tragedy. It is established that managerial influence is carried out constantly in various forms in the process of interaction between the leader and the team. It is important that this influence is purposeful and positive on the part of the manager, and that the staff does not resist such influence. It is proved that the power of authority, which does not require formal support, is a more perfect form of administration.
