Abstract
After the various advancements in ubiquitous computing and micro sensor devices, the applications of the wireless sensor networks have evolved which includes medical care, crop cultivation, industrial automation, and smart city infrastructures. It is challenging to ensure and maintain the quality of service (QoS) for the heterogeneous application environment due to dynamic topology of the networks, and unique characteristics of the sensor nodes (mainly resource constraint nature). At the network layer the domain specific QoS provisioning methods have brought much attention among the research community. This study includes a systematic review of the various methods proposed in the literature to ensure the QoS in the network. Link availability based route selection for QoS provisioning has been proposed in the work which yields better results when compared to the other conventional route selection metrics including hop count, and network stability. The routing path sustains more for the network scenario with less mobility and as the mobility increases the network availability drops to a lesser probable value
