Abstract

The paper addresses properties of economic vocabulary in media discourse of social and economic orientation. Different recipients, theme peculiarities and functions determine lexical and semantic originality of an economic online article. The authors describe informative, evaluating and suggestive functions of media discourse. The analysis has shown that there is the interaction between these functions which results in combination of logic statement of information and author's emotional attitude. But sometimes one function can dominate in different online articles of economic media discourse. This can be shown by various means, for example, by the choice of the economic vocabulary. If the main function of the media article of economic orientation is the informative, the main lexical units will be economic terms and economic lexemes-realities. If evaluating or suggestive function prevails, the main lexical units will be evaluating, associative, and figurative. Used in English and Russian mass media economic articles lexical units have integral and specific linguocultural characteristics.
