Abstract

Special characteristics of functionality of a concept “nation/people” in the political discourse of candidate for presidency in the Republic of South Ossetia Anatoly Bibilov. In most countries people are proclaimed to be the only executors of power and are recognized as the creators of history, being therefore one f the basic values. Appealing to this concept serves as an instrument of manipulative effect and popularization. Political discourse, being an institutional kind of discourse, is illustrated by certain basic concepts such as “politics”,”politician”,”authorities”,”welfare”,”targeting”,”nation/people”,”state”,”interest”. Analyzing the communicative aspects of political discourse of Anatoly Bibilov we found out the peculiarities of explication f concept “nation/people”, one of the key concepts of the subjects of politics. The concept is presented as “poles apart”. The most frequently used words and word combinations as “republic”, ”South Ossetia”, “state”, “nation/people”, “we”,“people”. Bibilov stresses the responsibility of the authorities for the citizens and asserts, that “authorities should serve the people”. With highlighters “people” and “nation” the politician demonstrates the community of interests of all the citizens of the republic irrespective of their social status, nationality, profession or religion
