Abstract
Proverbs and sayings have always been a part of human culture. Every nation, indeed, has got its own way of representing its own culture through proverbs and sayings. A number of studies have addressed the proverbs and sayings in different nations per se, however, comparative studies are rare in this regard, a gap which this study tries to fill. Especially, with regard to the Persian and Russian languages with such deep cultural ties, a comparative study of their proverbs and sayings will be highly promising. Such studies can promote relationships between these two nations and increase their people' s mutual understanding of each other's languages, thoughts, feelings and characteristics. To this end, a comparative analysis of the lexical and stylistic characteristics of the Russian and Persian languages were carried out. The findings revealed that the similarities outweighed the differences, and the two languages were more similar in stylistic domain.
