Abstract
The paper covers the key findings of the applied research titled «Methodological principles of development of education libraries as an important component of educational environment» conducted by the team of researchers at V.O. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Pedagogical Library of Ukraineduring 2017– 2019. The scientific originality of the research findingsconsists in the following: studying the methodological principles of providing support to the system of education libraries under the Ministry of Education of Ukraine and the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine; finding out the effectiveness of scientific and methodological activity performed atV.O. Sukhomlynskyi SSPL of Ukraine. It was the first time the library researchers performed the following: they carried out a comprehensive study of the forms, methods and methodological principles of the development of education libraries as an important component of educational environment; they studied the tendencies of the development of leading education librariesto speed up the process of transforming them into modern subject library and information systems and ensure the integration of their resources in the global information space; they generalised and disseminated the best practices regarding the information activity of education libraries. The study showed the need for the prepared reference, scientific-practical and methodological publications for the system of education libraries, the need for enlarging the research function of methodological activity that will ensure the development of the most effective and popular forms of work in this direction, and the need foroptimisingthe system of specialists' professional development at education libraries using modern innovative forms, methods, and means of information and communications technology. The introduction of the research findingsinto the practice of educationlibraries will further the modernisation of education libraries of different types, the improvement of the quality of library and information service, the extension of library workers'knowledge of modern approaches to the organisation of library work, and the development of their professional skills. It will alsopositively influence the intensification of research activity and educational process in the educational sphere of Ukraine.
