Abstract

This study examined the efficacy of on Social Networking activities, demographic variables and disruptive behaviors of secondary school students and the implications for classroom management. The study addressed the peculiar problem of students' distractions in relation to social networking sites, particularly with Facebook and Twitter. The study applied the ex-post-facto research design. The instruments used in collecting data included a questionnaire titled Students' Social Networking Activity Questionnaire (SSNAQ) and Disruptive Behavior Inventory (DBI). The instruments were face validated by three experts in Education. Cronbach alpha was obtained for the reliability of the SSNAQ, while Cronbach's alpha coefficient values of 0.69 and 0.72 were obtained for the DBI and SSNAQ, respectively. In answering the research questions and testing hypotheses, mean, standard deviation and, t- test statistics were applied. The result was significant in relation to students' social network sites' activities and disruptive behavior. Results show no substantial difference between the mean score of students in urban and rural areas disruptive behavior.
