Abstract

Aim. To remind everyone to follow the established rules of conduct, and in the workplace - safety regulations, anytime, anywhere. Material and Methods. A theoretical analysis of the causes and circumstances of contact with foreign bodies (FB) in the human body, neglecting of which leads to accidents. This is illustrated by a rather simple, at first glance, case of our practical work - acomplete obstruction of the esophagus by a FB (shish kebab pieces) in patient M. Results and Discussion. Alcohol and food consumption in a state of fatigue and hurry and while talking caused jamming of hot chunks of meat above the medium physiological narrowing of the esophagus in the patient M. In response to irritation of the esophagus mucosa by the FB, a spasm of its walls occurred, followed by pain, and eventually - redness and swelling of the mucosa, around the mucilaginized FB. Administered medications allowed to conduct a fibrogastroscopy and to thrust the FB down the esophagus into the stomach. In elderly, esophagus obturation with poorly chewed chunks of meat is observed under certain conditions . Often a few pieces of meat may be stuck one after the other; afterwards, due to enhanced motility they may be rammed into one big ball, leading to obstruction of the lumen of the esophagus. This occurs most often in areas of physiological narrowing of the esophagus. The risk of severe complications requiresemergency removal of FB from esophagus lumen. Conclusions. In this case, the long known rules of food intake have been neglected: not to eat in a state of fatigue (have a rest first); not to consume food hastily; chew the food well before swallowing; not talk or be otherwise distracted (watch TV, read a book - "when I eat - I'm deaf and dumb,"; listen to your inner voice, predictive nature of intuition, anytime, anywhere. Key word: foreign bodies, esophageal obstruction, emergency
