Humor Styles and Life Satisfaction amongst School Administrators: An Investigation in Atasehir

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between humor styles (affiliative humor, self-enhancing humor, aggressive humor and self-defeating humor) and life satisfaction of school administrators. The effects of gender, school size and school levels on school administrators’ humor styles and life satisfaction have been explored. The sample consists of 250 school administrators who work in Atasehir, Istanbul within the academic year 2012-2013. The data are collected using the Humor Styles Scale and Life Satisfaction Scale. Apart from that data collection included a personal information form to obtain demographic information of the participants.The independent samples t-test is performed and one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) is calculated on participants’ ratings of human tyles and life satisfaction. Scheffe test is performed to interpret where the significant differences lie. Also, Pearson correlation is used to determine the correlation between humor styles and life satisfaction. The results of the study show that there is a positive correlation between life satisfaction and affiliative, self-enhancing humor styles, aggresive and self-defeating humor styles vary based upon gender while school type affected the ratings of life satisfaction and self-enhancing humor style scores. According to the study, ratings of life satisfaction and ratings of affiliative and self-enhancing humor styles vary based upon school level.
