The use of an integrated approach on the lessons "I am exploring the world" in the New Ukrainian School

Abstract

Modern primary education is characterized by systemic changes in structure and content; rethinking of learning priorities and the role of the primary education as a subject of educational process in general. This leads to untraditional approaches in solving many pedagogical problems of the New Ukrainian School and search for the new ones to structuring knowledge as a mean of the complete understanding and cognition of the world. One of the key directions of a modern Ukrainian school education reforming is the integration of approaches in the process of nature study, the construction of the content of the educational process, which forms students' intellectual skills, systemic thinking, and the holistic world picture. The course "I am exploring the world" is a propedeutical basis for the formation of a holistic picture of the world in its organic unity and diversity. The content of the course is aimed at implementing a competency-based approach, contributing to the development of the student's personality, formation of social, civic, environmental and health-saving behavior's models used by a teacher. The field of Natural science contains issues related to the study of nature through the knowledge of its laws and processes, the place and interaction of a person in nature. The use of an integrated approach at lessons "I am exploring the world" contributes to the expansion of students' social and cognitive experience in line with the teacher's specific educational tasks, the intensive development of primary students in the aspect of the chosen subject matter, the formation of interest to events and phenomena of reality, personal education, the formation of children's life competencies. The methodological principle of subject integration in a modern educational environment is to support knowledge of many subjects, to relate them to the content of separate disciplines and to combine them with life experience.
