Abstract

This article has been devoted to the problem of creating an educational environment for the Roma population in Transcarpathia. A retrospective analysis has been made and statistical data have been analyzed that have revealed the multi-dimensional aspects of this ethnic community and determined the peculiarities of the pedagogical work with Roma children. The author has revealed that the Roma ethnic minority of the region is significantly different from other communities in peculiarities of life, ethnocultural mobilization and ethnic identity. According to the Roma nomadic way of life, they did not get into the general educational system, however, we can not assume that they did not receive any education at all. Simply traditional Roma education in the camps has always been applied, aimed at assimilating traditional crafts and cultural achievements of the nation. Today, this specificity manifests itself in a low educational level, which is conditioned by certain factors: difficult socio-economic life conditions, segregated schools, lost study motivation, the absence of teachers who perfectly know Roma language, and others. The author has presented examples of creating an educational environment for Roma children in Uzhgorod and Mukacheve districts. In addition to studying at school, Roma children have actively been involved in artistic creativity, physical education and sports. It has been noted that public and religious organizations provide great help in the development of the education and culture of the Roma population in the region. Among the factors that really motivate gypsies to learn, is the activities of the Roma Educational Foundation. Its work in Ukraine is coordinated by the International Renaissance Foundation. It is important to carry out an explanatory work among Roma parents, because it is only through education possible to break the range of poverty and ignorance, to give their children a chance to fully integrate into Ukrainian society in the future.
