Socio cultural direction of foreign language training in higher institution

Abstract

The problem of forming sociocultural competence of future professionals in terms of higher educational establishment is investigated in the article. It is determined that learning a language is regarded as acquisition of knowledge and integrated language skills in their interactions that dictate life situations. Components of content sociocultural competence in foreign languages are also substantiated, as well as professional integrated socio-cultural knowledge, background knowledge, professionally oriented reading. Attention is focused on expanding knowledge about the country of the language being mastered through specially selected professionally orientated training texts which should be functional, relevant, adequate and stimulating. Those pedagogical principles are analyzed that can provide the formation of foreign language socio-cultural competence: innovative teaching of professional foreign language communication technologization of the process of formation foreign socio-cultural competence, comparative technology that not only expands the student's knowledge of foreign language countries, but also contributes to its national identity, interdisciplinary coordination in training professional directional foreign language and professional disciplines as a means to overcome the artificial boundaries between different systems of knowledge. It is discovered that the expansion of socio-cultural competence of future professionals include the following steps: activation of lexical already known material on the subject along with playing expertise of profile disciplines; the introduction of new social and cultural concepts based on comparison of effects on a "one culture - a different culture"; filling of new concepts by understandable content through providing examples of professional activities for students of chosen profession; fixing the consumption of new concepts in standard situations; conscious use of concepts learned in spontaneous speech in unusual situations based on professional knowledge. The conscious and purposeful implementation of such teaching principles as interactivity, language and speechactivity, contextualization and integration should promote the combination of language awareness with practical knowledge of speech activity in the respective situations of communication. It is concluded that the formation of socio-cultural competence by means of a foreign language in high school aimed at developing world conceptualization of personality and prepare them to the study of world history, country, people, to realize oneself as a native speaker and representative of national values, understanding the way of finding solutions to global problems, onto development of communicative culture and spiritual potential of today's youth.
