Abstract
Data accompanies us at every step, but databases are necessary for their successful use. This article reveals the concepts of relational and non-relational databases and describes their features. Examples of popular database management systems are given and in which industries they are most often used. In conclusion, it is concluded that there are no universal solutions and for the successful functioning of applications it is necessary to know both options.
