BRATSLAV DISTRICT IN THE POST-REFORM PERIOD (1862–1872): FEATURES OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, DEMOGRAPHY, AND CLASS STRATIFICATION

Abstract
The purpose of the study based on documentary sources is to follow the peculiarities of socio-economic development and demographic condition of the Bratslav district of Podillia province in the post-reform period (1862–1872). Using statistical sources, we will try to identify capitalist relations and find out their impact on the public and economic life of the population. The research methodology is based on historical, statistical, comparative, chronological, and logical methods. The scientific novelty is to ask the question of the need to study the socio-economic development and demographic status of the land of Right-Bank Ukraine in the post-reform period based on archival sources and documents, reassessment of certain provisions in history related to the development of capitalism. Conclusions. Thus, in the ‘60–‘70s of the nineteenth century Bratslav district was characterized by a backward economic system with dominant agricultural production. The abolition of serfdom did not lead to radical changes in the social and economic life of the studied territory. The market relations that developed in the county in their content were not much different from those that were here in the first half of the nineteenth century.
