Abstract
Since it permits the solid-state joining of different and conductive materials, ultrasonic metal welding (USMW) is often utilized in the manufacture of lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery packs. However, there is still a lack of knowledge about welding's procedures and techniques. The existence of a heat affected zone in the ultrasonically attached sheets has been studied and its influence on the joint strength investigated, but this is still one of the least understood aspects of ultrasonic welding. Similar and dissimilar metal combinations provide contrasting interface properties. This article provides a systematic literature evaluation of microstructural investigation at the interface of ultrasonic welded joints constructed from various metal sheet combinations. Ultrasonic metal welding is all that has been looked at so far.
