CULTURAL APPROACH TO STUDYING OLEKSANDR DOVZHENKO’S CREATIVE WORK IN HIGH SCHOOL

Abstract

Introduction. The implementation of a cultural approach in studying the Ukrainian writers' creative work in Ukrainian Literature lessons provides students with a wide range of knowledge and skills associated with the art of the word in unity with related types of art (fine art, theatre, music, sculpture and architecture, etc.), as well as cultural forms of expressing the individual's aesthetic consciousness to clarify the common social experience. Purpose. The article aims to conduct a didactic and methodical analysis of the current Ukrainian Literature programs and textbooks for the 11th grade on implementing the recommended rubric «Artistic context» in teaching Oleksandr Dovzhenko's life and creative work to high school students. Methods. The following research methods have been used during the study: analytical – for conducting a comparative analysis of the pedagogical, methodological works, state educational documents, curricula and school textbooks, studying the scientific and pedagogical experience to identify the main methodological approaches for solving this issue in a science and practice; systematization – for summarizing the conclusions of the study. Results. The article is concerned with the features of implementing the cultural approach in the program and the initial provision of Ukrainian Literature lessons on the example of studying Oleksandr Dovzhenko's creative work. It is emphasized that forming key competence «Awareness and self-expression in the field of culture» involves using certain teaching aids the Ukrainian Literature lessons, e.g. painting reproductions, video and audio recordings of musical works, watching plays and films, etc. It is described the analysis of the didactic and methodical potential of current textbooks of Ukrainian Literature for 11th grades in studying Oleksandr Dovzhenko's creative work to implement the recommended program rubric «Artistic context» as one of the effective means of implementing a cultural approach to teaching literature.Originality. Having analyzed current Ukrainian Literature programs and textbooks for high school, it has been proven that understanding Oleksandr Dovzhenko's multifaceted heritage in unity with related types of art can form a holistic idea of literature as an important component of national and world culture, increase the young readers' level of education and culture, develop their creative potential. Conclusion. Nowadays, studying Oleksandr Dovzhenko's creative work in Ukrainian Literature lessons occurs within the national and world cultural contexts. It aims at building students' key competence «Awareness and self-expression in the sphere of culture». The samples of various types of art offered in the current Ukrainian Literature textbooks are characterized by high artistic perfectness and truthfulness. They help students absorb biographical materials about the artist, provide the connection of literary and art material, form of artistic tastes, skills to work with works of art independently and correspond to the high school student's age characteristics. Logically and consistently proposed questions and tasks in the textbooks direct the student's attention to the understanding of Oleksandr Dovzhenko's innovative searches in the context of the development of world literature and culture.
