Abstract

The purpose of the article is to determine the legal aspects of the military-patriotic education of children and youth as a component of the preparation of military service. The legal regulation of military-patriotic education was the subject of analysis. Attention is focused on the shortcomings of the legislation in the area under study. Arguments are given that the legal support of military-patriotic education is at the very beginning of its development and requires a number of scientific, organizational, psychological and pedagogical measures. The concept of military-patriotic education is formulated as encouragement and support for the formation of a high level of social responsibility in the individual for the protection of his state, territorial society and civil society, as well as readiness for military service in peace and martial law. A classification of functions is proposed, performed by military-patriotic education in the system of preparation for military service. The function of socialization allows young people to form an active life position, which implies a high level of social responsibility for the security of society and the state. The adaptive function of military-patriotic education allows an individual to quickly and freely begin military service, save his adaptive efforts and implement the principles of humanism, preservation of life, physical and mental health of personnel. The function of continuous development determines the constant need of the individual to improve his general and special knowledge, skills, and master the methods and techniques of military leadership. The information function of military-patriotic education creates a broad awareness of children and youth about the functioning of the security and defense sector, the basic rights and obligations of a citizen related to the defense of the state, the characteristics of a military career and the internal and external factors necessary for its success.
