Abstract
Idiopathic intracranial hypertension or cerebrospinal hypertension syndrome is a syndrome of increased pressure of cerebrospinal fluid inside the skull (namely, in the space between the brain and the dura mater) without a detectable cause. This pathology can lead to disability of patients as a result of loss of vision with prolonged absence of treatment. This is a rare disease (it occurs on average in 5-6 people per 100,000 population), more often characteristic of the age group of 20-50 years, although it can occur in all age groups, and women suffer from this pathology about 20 times more often than men; in addition, most patients are obese. Idiopathic intracranial hypertension is difficult to diagnose clinically, since it does not have pathognomonic symptoms, despite this, it is very important to start treatment on time — for this, drug therapy is often used. One of the medicines that help reduce intracranial pressure is acetazolamide, the effect of which I will consider in this article.
