Abstract

Endometriosis is a chronic disease of the female reproductive system characterized by the germination of the tissue of the mucous membrane of the uterine cavity — the endometrium — beyond its limits. Endometriosis is a chronic, benign, estrogen-dependent inflammatory disease that is found in about 10% of women of reproductive age and 35-50% of women with pelvic pain and infertility. The most important clinical symptom of endometriosis is pain associated with the menstrual cycle, pulling in the lower abdomen and in the lumbar region throughout the month, intensifying on the eve of menstruation, and sharply painful menstruation (dysmenorrhea). Many women have headaches, nervousness, mood deterioration, decreased performance and sleep disorders before menstruation. One of the ways to treat this disease is the use of gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogues. The most well-studied drug in this category is zoladex, the properties and mechanism of action of which I will consider in this article.
