Abstract

The article examines the effectiveness of Place-based education (PBE) in the aspect of forming an active civic position. Place-based education is a pedagogical approach that emphasizes the connection between the learning process and the territorial community in which teachers and students live. It is noted that one of the main types of educational activity according to this pedagogical approach is the solution of real problems of the community: environmental, social, related to the violation of rights and various manifestations of discrimination. It was emphasized that a very important area of activity within the framework of PBE is volunteering, which is extremely relevant for the Ukrainian present. The basic principles, the observance of which can maximize the effectiveness of this pedagogical approach, are highlighted. The essence of the first principle is that training should take place in interaction with the local community. The second principle assumes that in the PBE educational environment, the classroom and the school are identified with the territorial community. This can be achieved if students independently investigate the problems of the community outside the school classrooms, and experts from various fields of knowledge are involved in the educational process. It is emphasized that the idea of combining PBE with national-patriotic and civic education can give a new useful perspective. The advantages of studying according to the principles of PBE are considered, in particular, in the aspect of forming an active civic position. It is substantiated that the educational environment, organized according to the principles of PBE, creates conditions for successful self-realization, the choice of an individual life trajectory, promotes wider involvement of young people in various social movements and organizations, so that they can realize that something depends on them, their opinion is taken into account and take into account when making strategic decisions. Pedagogy focused on the territorial community helps teachers and students to more deeply feel social moods and requests, to think more critically about social and political events and processes, to show civic activity. Such educational activity is especially relevant in crisis conditions of full-scale aggression
