Abstract

Beginning from 1930s, a new tendency in the Soviet cinema started to appear. The circumstances before and during the Second World War has made a significant effect in the development of cinema and literary perspective in terms of national unity in the Soviet Russia. It is not suprising that, these tendencies occur at the same time as Stalin’s putting emphasis on socialism in one state principle. During the propaganda activities in regards to create a Soviet human-being on the basis of a Russian identity, cinema plays the vital role. This situation is also closely related to the success of contention towards Germany. For this reason, the thesis of the country love and Russia’s historical greatness along with it’s superiority has been embodiered intensively. Important historical personalities, Russian legends are cut out for such an undertaking. In this particular epoch, instead of films which find their point of departure in class struggless of society, the collapse of Tsardom and October Revolution, films which lay stress on the themes of Tsardom Period’s legends and historical personas has been emphasized with their positive aspects. In this article, these tendencies which can be observed in viet cinema will be evaluated by taking into account of the celebrated Russian moviemaker Eisenstein’s two movies’ analysis -Ivan the Terrible and Aleksandr Nevskii- which he has produced in 1930s and 1940s.
