Abstract
The purpose of the paper is to research modern social movement waves in a comparative and historical perspective and to examine risks and limitedness of new social movements considering the influence of the current global order. In compliance with the main features of dominant global perception, new social movements became much more global, fragmental, transitory and flexible; they emphasize diversity and locality; focus on specific issues from 1990’s till current movements such as Occupy Wall Street Action. Meanwhile these structural features engender the power of opposition and extend the sphere of movement’s influence; they may cause disengagement from the main debates at the same time.
