Abstract

Introduction. Global warming, problems of shortage of natural resources, hunger and poverty are problems that at first glance are not related to each other, but the solution of which lies in the implementation of various concepts and strategies of development. Leading scientists believe that eliminating the consequences of globalization (anthropoppression) is a means to preserve the quality of life on Earth for the long term. Today, there are no people left who do not understand that it is impossible to run an economy that will lead to the fact that future generations will not have access to clean land, water and air. Therefore, the concept of sustainable development becomes an alternative. The transition from traditional to sustainable development requires a total change in the paradigm of economic growth with a focus on the green economy. This transition can be implemented through two goals: achieving macroeconomic stability— the main driver of economic growth, as well as reducing environmental degradation and increasing the efficiency of resource use, which are the main requirements for green development. Purpose. The purpose of the research is theoretical substantiation and empirical verification of the hypothesis regarding the role of the green economy as a stimulator of sustainable economic development and poverty alleviation, as well as the identification of trends and challenges in its development. Materials and methods. The materials for the research were: 1) works of domestic and foreign scientists, in which issues related to the impact of the green economy on sustainable growth were considered; 2) reports of international organizations from which we received information on the development of the “green” economy in the world; 3) publications on foreign information portals, based on which the principles of the “green” economy were systematized, as well as the challenges it faced. In the process of conducting the research, the following scientific methods were used: theoretical generalization and grouping (to present the essence of the “green” economy, determine its place in ensuring sustainable development and economic stability, present the principles governing the “green” economy); analysis and synthesis (for graphical presentation and analysis of trends in the development of the “green” economy over the last decade; logical summarization of results (formulation of conclusions). Results. The scientific article defines the prerequisites that necessitated the transition to a “green” economy. The concept of sustainable development has been concretized and its points of intersection with the green economy have been established. The essence of the green economy is presented, the basic principles on which it is based are systematized and considered.
