Abstract
Introduction. In the context of the ongoing war and the economic challenges posed by global changes, the study of the structure of big business in Ukraine is becoming particularly relevant. An analysis of data on the 1000 largest companies reveals significant changes in the sectoral and regional distribution of revenues, indicating a transformation of the economic landscape. There is a need for a detailed study of the impact of these changes on the sustainability of the economy and the effectiveness of public policy in the new realities. This article, based on the aggregation of financial indicators of top companies, offers an analytical overview of the key trends and challenges of the transformation of the sectoral and regional structure that characterise the modern big business in Ukraine. Purpose. The aim of the study is to identify key market and regional trends in the development of the top 1000 companies in Ukraine in the context of a full-scale war, which will allow for the formulation of data-based recommendations for economic policy aimed at stabilising and developing key sectors of the economy. Materials and methods. The research materials are: 1) regulatory and legal support for the sectoral classification of enterprises; 2) statistical data of financial statements and registration data of the studied enterprises; 3) works of domestic and foreign authors in the field of market analysis, regionalism and the impact of systemic shocks on the country's economic development. The following scientific methods were used in the course of the research: empirical analysis of statistical data — to study and assess the financial performance of companies, including revenues and their dynamics in different sectors of the economy and regions of Ukraine; comparative analysis — to identify changes in the ranking of large companies and their revenues in different periods, as well as to compare regional trends; systematic approach — for a comprehensive study of the interrelationships between different sectors of the economy and their impact on the overall state of large business in Ukraine. Results. The article reveals the dynamics of the sectoral and regional structure of large business in Ukraine. The results of the empirical analysis show that during the second year of the full-scale war, certain significant changes took place in the sectoral structure of the first thousand companies in Ukraine. Thus, the traditional main sectors of the Ukrainian economy — oil and gas, energy, agriculture, metallurgy and IT — showed a decline in their share of the total revenue of the top 1,000 companies, indicating unfavourable trends in key markets. At the same time, relatively higher revenue growth rates were recorded among the largest retailers, wholesale suppliers, car dealers, as well as food and machinery companies. Additionally, 6 new companies in the gambling sector entered the top 1,000 by revenue. The largest concentration of registered large enterprises remains in Kyiv, although some of their assets operate in other regions. The western regions, except for Lviv and part of Zakarpattia, have lost some of the positive effects of business relocation that were observed at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. At the same time, companies from Kyiv, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, and Kharkiv regions have shown significant revenue growth. Discussion. In future research, it is proposed to focus on analysing the impact of structural changes in the sectoral distribution of large business on the overall macro-financial stability of Ukraine's economy under martial law, as well as to improve strategic approaches to sectoral and regional economic policy during reconstruction.
