Abstract

Ayurveda is a holistic healing science which comprises of two words Ayur and Veda derived from the Sanskrit language. Ayur which means life and Veda mean knowledge or science. It is fair to say Ayurveda is the science of life or knowledge of life. According to ancient Auyrvedic scholar Caraka Ayu comprise the mind, body, senses and the soul. Ayurveda is intricate medicine system that originated in India thousands of years ago. Sanskrit scientific literature is dynamic sources of endless knowledge. The Ayurveda literature is gems of knowledge that no one can appreciates in a whole life. Medical tradition also goes back to Vedic times when Asvin Kumars who were practice nor of medicine and they were given a divine status Dhanvantari was called god of medicine especially which advances in Ayurvedic treatment, plastic surgery, dental surgery etc. all the records on medicine in India are the Susruta Samihta which is dated around 8th century B.C. . The main object of the paper is to highlight the relevance of Ayurveda in Sanskrit literature.
