Abstract
Issues of studying of representation as a mental phenomenon are revealed. It is indicated a weak elaboration of not only a description of its characteristics, but also the absence of the minimum sufficient set of integral characteristics of representation. The author makes an attempt to avoid partiality in the measurements and descriptions of representations that requires specification of functional load of its characteristics in school activities and move to the integral characteristics in the description that reveal new features of students’ representations at different stages of education.
