Abstract
The article deals with historical preconditions and laws of adaptive architecture formation. The main stages of its development are defined: from the adaptability as a result of natural functioning to formation of the direction and intended use of techniques and principles of adaptability in design and construction. The first prototypes of adaptability in architecture are analyzed and an overview of adaptability concepts in architecture is presented. Advantages of adaptive architectural objects in modern times are singled out.
