Abstract
Yahya Kemal; he is one of the important poets of the Republican era. He influenced many subsequent poets, persons and writers with his poems and opinions. Lots of researches have been carried out about Yahya Kemal’s poems, his literary and reflective personality, his poetship and his life. To commemorate Yahya Kemal and art symposium was organized to understand the many. Yahya Kemal’s poem called “Atik-Valde’den İnen Sokakta” will be studied in terms of communication and communication elements in this article. Poem is an ancient communication way. Almost all the great scientists, thinkers and artists of our civilization expressed their feelings by poems. Yahya Kemal is a poet who uses the opportunities of poetic communication and of poem skilfully. The trouble resulted from staying away from the values of the community that one lives in is also seen in Yahya Kemal like many other Republican intellectuals. By the help of poem, he ensured getting closer the distance with the community which he stayed away because of a western lifestyle and he tried to overcome the resentment which was resulted from this distance. With this poem, Yahya Kemal is communicating with the society of which he considers himself a part in terms of religious values, and he is stating his feelings with the help of poetic expression.
