Organizational and pedagogical activity of the rector of Ostroh Academy (1576 - 1636) Gerasimus Smotritsky

The article analyzes the organizational and educational activities of first rector of Ostroh Academy 1576 ? 1636, teacher, writer, polemicist and public figure Gerasimus Danylovych Smotritsky. Characterized Smotritsky’s organizational activity as rector of Ostroh Academy, analyzed his pedagogical ideas, disclosed editorial, publishing and literary heritage of Smotritsky. The results of the research are to identify the contribution of Gerasimus Smotritsky in the historical, cultural and educational heritage of Ukraine. The results of the research can be used in further research, lectures and publications of general history and history of education.
