Abstract
The article presents the key findings of the research on characteristics of Volga-Bulgarian toponymy made on the basis of Bulgarian toponymic material contained in historical records (Russian, Hungarian, Byzantine, Transcaucasian and Arab-Persian), archival documents as well as Volga region folklore. The causes of the establishment of such characteristics are analyzed, possible directions of further research of Volga-Bulgarian toponymy are suggested.
