CHENGYU AS A PHRASEOLOGICAL UNIT

In this article, we examine fixed phrases in Chinese, particularly chengyu idioms, their origin and varieties. The aim of the study is to take an up-close look at one of the main classes of fixed phrases. The article includes some examples from classical works and ones related to significant historical events. The main attributes and features of chengyu are described. The role of chengyu in society is considered.
