In article the works of source study character devoted to various aspects of history of Kuibyshev (Samara) region of the period of the Great Patriotic War, published at a boundary of the XX?XXI centuries are for the first time classified and analyzed. Isolated and studied three groups of publications: articles in which an overall assessment of the documents archives of the Samara region as the largest database on the history of the Great Patriotic War; Reviews funds state and local archives and publications of sources thematic nature; work, which reveals the cognitive capabilities of the individual types of sources in the study of military history of the Samara region
